Dr. Akinloye Julius Makanjuola is a Board-Certified Internal Medicine, Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine Physician who attended Loyola College, Ibadan and then graduated from Nigeria’s premier teaching hospital, the University College Hospital in Ibadan, Oyo State Nigeria. Soon after graduation he proceeded to the United States and was accepted into a Residency Program in Internal Medicine at the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center in Amarillo, Texas in 2001. A talented physician with a penchant for excellence, he served as Chief Resident during his Internal Medicine Residency. He was accepted into a Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine Fellowship at Louisiana State University in Shreveport, Louisiana in 2005 where he also served as the Chief Fellow. He continues to practice high-intensity Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine and has a growing hospital and outpatient-based practice, Georgia Universal Lungs in Atlanta, GA. Fondly referred to as Dr. J by most of his colleagues and patients—a name he picked up in the first month of his training at Texas Tech University—his unique clinical style and evidence based medical approach has seen him serve previously and currently in an array of institutions and hospitals. He has served as Medical, Laboratory, Pulmonary and Critical Care Program Director along the spectrum from Acute Care Hospitals through the gamut of the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) to Long Term Acute Care Hospitals and even as a Nursing Home Pulmonary Program Director. This has enabled him to fully understand the seamless flow of care needed to nurture and heal both young and old patients from acute illness to full recovery. He is a member of the American Society of Critical Care Medicine and a Fellow of the American College of Chest Physicians.
